Gestamp and Iberdrola have signed a 10-year renewable energy Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the supply of 660,000 MWh of electricity to various European plants of the multinational company, which specialises in the design, development and manufacture of highly engineered metal components for the automotive industry.
The alliance demonstrates the commitment of both companies to a safer, more efficient and more sustainable industrial model centred on the electrification of operations and production processes.
The PPA covers 34 MW of installed capacity and will supply Gestamp plants with 100% renewable energy (80% wind and the remaining 20% solar), backed by guarantees of origin certificates.
This agreement enables Gestamp to secure long term renewable energy at a fixed and competitive price, in line with its strategy to strengthen the stability and visibility of its future energy costs. It also supports the company in taking another step forward in its contribution to decarbonising the automotive industry’s supply chain.
This partnership allows Gestamp to continue making progress in the use of renewable energy for its operations. In this regard, the newly signed PPA joins others already signed by the company, which already allowed it to cover 100% of its production activities in Spain and Brazil with renewable energy sources, as well as a significant portion in countries such as India and Mexico.
For its part, Iberdrola — Europe’s largest electricity utility and one of the two biggest worldwide by market capitalisation — further expands its PPA portfolio and reinforces its role as a strategic partner for industrial customers. The company recently retained, for the third consecutive year, its position as the leading player in the European PPA market, according to the Pexapark Renewables Market Outlook 2026 report.
These long-term contracts form part of Iberdrola’s strategy to promote stable partnerships with major customers, advance the electrification of the industrial and business fabric, and contribute to a self-sufficient, secure, competitive and sustainable energy system capable of meeting growing demand.
In Spain’s automotive sector, Iberdrola has formalised agreements in 2026—each with a 10 year term—that cover 50 MW of installed capacity and the supply of one million MWh of 100% renewable energy.
Javier Imaz, Chief Purchasing Officer (CPO) of Gestamp, stated: “This agreement marks a very important milestone for the company, as it represents a further step in our efforts to implement more sustainable
production processes that prioritise electrification, energy efficiency and the use of renewable sources. All of this forms part of Gestamp’s ambitious sustainability strategy, which seeks, among other objectives, to continue contributing to the decarbonisation of the automotive industry’s supply chain.”
David Martínez, Director of the Retail Business at Iberdrola España, said: “This agreement reinforces our commitment to supporting industry in its transition towards a safer, more competitive and more sustainable energy model. PPAs are a key tool to guarantee long term energy supply for industrial companies and to drive the electrification of the economy.”
